Pengertian Nouns

Dikutip dari Casco Primary English pengertiannya “Nouns are words we use to name things, places, plants, animals and people. The words ‘things’, ‘places’, ‘plants’, ‘animals’ and ‘people’ are also nouns. Dapat diartikan sebagai berikut, Nouns (Kata Benda) merupakan kata-kata yang kita gunakan untuk menamai suatu benda, tempat/lokasi, tanaman, hewan dan orang. Bahkan kata ‘benda’, ‘tempat/lokasi’, ‘tanaman’ dan ‘orang termasuk juga dalam kata benda.

Berikut ini adalah beberapa contoh kata benda:
a. Things (benda): pen, pencil, book, bag, paper, ship, plane, car, music, piano, cup, plate, fork, spoon, watch, shoes, socks, shirt, dress, purse, wallet, water, food, rice, noodles, bed, cupboard, toy and doll.
b. Places (tempat/lokasi): school, classroom, house, home, room, office, shopping center, beach, field, housing estate, park, city, country and Singapore.
c. Plants (tanaman): tree, grass, rose, flower, fruit, apple and orange.
d. Animals (hewan): cat, rat, dog, tiger, lion, fish, snail, bird, cow and snake.
e. Names (nama): Alfred, jenny, Ahmad and Inderjit.
f. People (orang): boy, girl, man, woman, baby, teacher, pupil, doctor, postman, mother, father, brother, sister, uncle and aunt.

Dari gambar di atas terdapat hewan (animals), orang (people), tempat/lokasi (places) dan benda (things). Hewan yang terlihat adalah turtles (kura-kura), orang-orangnya adalah a doctor (seorang dokter) dan a nurse (seorang perawat), tempatnya adalah zoo (kebun binatang), benda-bendanya adalah a screwdriver (sebuah obeng), a drill (sebuah bor), dan a pair of pliers (sebuah tang). Semua kata dari benda benda ini disebut kata benda (nouns).
